A Year of Reading in Review #
Apologies for the delay in publishing this year’s review; I have been hard at work on music and getting an early burst of reading done. Regardless, hope you find something valuable in this year’s recommendations!
As usual, there is no order to the below list; It simply reflects my top picks of the year across the entirety of what I’ve read.
1. Wind/Pinball by Haruki Murakami #
This book is a combination of the first two stories in Murakami’s “The Rat” trilogy. As per usual, Murakami’s character development is delightful. My favorite parts of this book are its wonderful imagery and philosophical reflections.
A fantastic first two stories in an enticing trilogy that happens to have a semi-official fourth book.
2. The Soul At Work by Franco Berardi #
While surely eccentric analysis in some ways, I think the core ideas presented in this book are quite fascinating and capture some critical tendencies of our contemporary situation.
A compelling analysis of capitalism and its effects in the 21st century.
3. Schopenhauer’s Porcupines by Deborah Luepnitz #
The collection of case studies here is presented in a compelling and easy-to-follow manner. The combination of narrative and reflection on what these cases can teach us about relationships of any type makes the book that much more intriguing.
A relatively quick read with some impactful takeaways.
The Coming Year #
So far I have already read six books, so this new year is shaping up to be quite productive on the reading front. Looking forward to my future reads and future picks for next year’s top three. Happy belated New Year!
